What’s the difference between a criminal and an outlaw?

A strange way to start an email about “hustle culture”, I know, but all will make sense soon — I assure you 😀

All this has come on the back of re-watching the show Fargo (which is great), and one particular conversation that takes place during Season Four.

We’ll get to that in a moment, but first, this week’s roundup 👇👇

this week’s featured book

The Alchemist by Paolo Cohelo — one of my favorite books of all time, and one I often re-read when I enter a new chapter in life. It may be time for me to read it once more 😀

🎙️ pass the mic

Someone I’ve loved to follow for a long time is Nat Eliason, and the launch of his new book is fast approaching.

He’s a fascinating mind, and so I’m curious to see how he approaches a book from a writing perspective rather than his usual “reading” one.

🎤 drop the mic

A purposefully short and sweet edition this week because 1) I’m not well so keeping focus is a struggle right now, and 2) to emphasize the importance of today’s theme.

OUTLAW 🤠

Back to that question earlier: the difference between a Criminal and an Outlaw?

Do you know the answer?

During that conversation in Fargo, she says that a criminal is one who plays society’s game and decides to break the rules (but is still part of the game).

Whereas an outlaw is one who refuses to be part of the game, period!

I found this interesting, and my mind went to Hustle Culture.

How it’s a game, and how we get to decide the role we play, and how sometimes it’s important to just remove yourself from it completely — if only for a day or two.

a weekend of isolation…

a day of rest…

an afternoon of saying ‘the hell with it’…

a chance to reset.

Doing any of the above can feel wrong and lazy, as though you’re some kind of criminal not willing to do what needs to be done. Yet sometimes, we all need to be an outlaw, refusing to accept the game completely, if only for a while.

Here’s to you and a fine week ahead. Thanks for reading. Thank you for being YOU.
